Online Course Design for Significant Learning

This 3-week, 32-hour institute uses Zoom for synchronous presentations and participant sharing with content for asynchronous activities online in the D2L Brightspace learning management system for faculty at Metropolitan State University who are creating a new course, want to improve a current course, and modify a course to deliver it online. Using the book Designing Effective Teaching and Significant Learning, author facilitators, who have directed Centers for Teaching and Learning, lead participants through the elements of course design and online pedagogy. The online course models how to use many Brightspace tools including: announcements, checklists, discussion, calendar, dropbox, quiz, grades, surveys, rubrics, groups, glossary, FAQs, intelligent agents and awards. Knowing how these tools are used and the pedagogy behind them, will help faculty use them in their newly designed online courses.
